Church Weekend Away

Hi everyone,

Sorry that I’ve been a little bit silent this week (you may secretly be happy about it). I’ve actually been away, which is what this post is about!

So this weekend, I went away for the first time with my church to Newquay! It was the most amazing weekend, I had such a fabulous time and despite it being a very eventful and busy schedule, I feel peaceful and recharged from it.

A lot of you reading this won’t know about my faith or what I believe in, so I thought I’d tie it in a little bit with this post, as it seems fitting.

The background:

I am a Christian (please don’t stop reading here!!), and in the past, this was something I didn’t feel comfortable sharing with people. So it feels really good to be able to write to you about it today. I think when I was younger, I used to care too much what people thought, and if I’m honest, I still battle with other people’s opinions, but I’m learning to be confident in myself.

I’ll keep my story short and simple. Basically, like anybody else, I make mistakes and I mess up. The thing (thing?) that gets me through this is Jesus and my relationship with him. I don’t know what you think about all this, but I believe that he died to because it was the only way to save us from our sins (a lifelong battle) so that’s why I owe it to him to give my life to him.

The weekend…

That’s enough of the background stuff for now (if you want to talk about it, please do send me a message).

I’ll move onto the details about the weekend itself!

We stayed in a hotel in Newquay in Cornwall, called Esplanage (I think!?). It overlooks Fistral Beach which is absolutely GORGEOUS. I went there last year with my Mum and was so glad to be able to go back! I had some lovely walks across the beach and people were actually surfing… I wish I had their bravery!

Have any of you been surfing before? I went in the summer last year and loved it! Can’t wait to go again.

Aside from the lovely location, I was so happy with the hotel. So often you go away and take a hit on the bed. I don’t know if it was because I was exhausted or not, but I actually slept so well! The beds were so comfortable which was a huge bonus! The food was also nice, they had to serve about 200 of us, so coped well!

Overall I had such a lovely trip. It was so nice to spend the time with friends and get to know acquaintances better. I’ve discovered that I’m absolutely TERRIBLE at quizzes, so I warn you… don’t pick me for your team ????. If you’re like me and no good at history or politics, you can usually expect to do okay on the music round. I don’t think I got more than 3 of the questions on that either! Oh well, surely there’s something else I’m half decent at?

What did you get up to this weekend? I want to hear all about it!

All the best,

Jessica x
